We realised back in July 2013 following the birth of Prince George how modern and up-to-date the monarchy now is, when on the day The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced the birth of their son, the official Twitter feed for Clarence House (@ClarenceHouse ) asked their Twitter followers to ’tweet’ if they welcomed any new arrivals that same day, by using the hashtag #WelcometotheWorld.

News reaches us here at the A Royal Baby blog, that the birth of Royal Baby number two will be announced on Twitter first! This seems such a dramatic break with the tradition of announcing the birth of a royal baby on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, but may well be a case of the Monarchy coping admirably with the reality of today’s ’24/7-news-anytime-anywhere’ culture!
