Happy Birthday Catherine!

Here at A Royal Baby Blog we would like to wish our  favourite Mum-to-be a very happy 33rd birthday!

The Clarence House twitter account tweeted their best wishes to the Duchess of Cambridge, and posted a picture of Kate as a child, and a rather more recent picture.

The Duchess, who is expecting her second child later this year, is believed to be having a nice, quiet, relaxing birthday with Prince William and Prince George at their home Anmer Hall, within the Queen’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

Start spreading the news; William and Kate are in a New York state of mind

It’s great to hear that Catherine seems to have fully recovered from her hyperemesis gravidarum, as it has been announced by Clarence House that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the United States of America between 7th and 9th December 2014.

William and Kate will travel to New York for a programme of engagements on behalf of the Royal Foundation and other charities with which Their Royal Highnesses are closely associated, and also on behalf of HM Government.

The charitable themes will include promoting sustainable conservation issues, and also supporting organisations which reflect Their Royal Highnesses’ interest in young people.

On behalf of the UK Government, The Duke and Duchess will attend events celebrating the successful partnerships between the UK and USA in the technology and creative industries sectors.

While in New York, William and Catherine will visit the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.

The couple won’t be together for the full trip, however, as on Monday 8th December, The Duke will travel to Washington DC, while The Duchess remains in New York.

The Duchess of Cambridge will ‘go solo’ and carry out two engagements in New York, visiting a local child development centre and attending a lunch to celebrate the achievements of a successful British community in New York from the culture, arts, hospitality and business sectors.

For a bit of light relief- and we know that William and Kate enjoy watching sport- on Monday evening, Their Royal Highnesses will attend an NBA Basketball game to help launch a new collaboration between the Royal Foundation, United for Wildlife and the NBA.

The final engagement of the visit will be the University of St. Andrews 600th Anniversary Dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Kate returns to royal duties.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge returned to Royal duties today. The Duke and Duchess greeted the President of Singapore and his wife, Mary (who are visiting the UK on a 4-day State Visit) at the Royal Garden Hotel, which is situated a few yards from Kensington Palace.

There followed a 20 minute ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade, at the end of which William and Kate travelled in the Scottish State Coach back to Buckingham Palace — the first time that the couple had travelled in the carriage procession for a state visit. As the Duchess has been suffering from extreme morning sickness -hyperemesis gravidarum – this part of Catherine’s duty was in some doubt, so it’s great that she was well enough to take on a bumpy carriage ride- even if it was a regal carriage.

Kate did not attend the private lunch held for the president at the Palace, I suspect Prawn Cocktail and Black Forest Gateau may have been pushing her recovery!

Are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge expecting twins? It may be worth a punt!

The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting twins – according to reports in a UK tabloid newspaper.

The Daily Express newspaper’s reasoning behind the headline is that bookmaker William Hill has now suspended all betting on Kate and William having twins next year.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told the Express the flood of bets would normally mean there was truth in the rumours. He said “We have had a load of unexpected bets including a large number of new accounts – with any other market I would say that people know.”

The bookies were offering odds of 20-1 (which doesn’t seem very generous given that twins are not particularly common, but I suppose that is how bookies make their money!) and the odds were reduced to 9-1 before suspension at 9.43pm.

Betting firm Coral followed William Hill’s lead- so watch this space! When betting resumes, I might well have a fiver each way myself 🙂

Curious George

The Duke of Cambridge has spent the weekend visiting Malta in place of his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, after Catherine was forced to pull out of what would have been her first solo foreign engagement.

Kate is still suffering the effects of severe morning sickness, which made travelling to Malta to mark the 50th anniversary of its independence impossible.

Prince William has, however, promised to return to Malta with his family. In yet another sign that Prince George may be proving to be a bit of a handful, William joked: “Malta might not survive Prince George. There are too many precious things around here.”

Kate cross to miss Malta visit?

Kensington Palace has today said that the Duchess of Cambridge will no longer visit Malta this weekend. Catherine, who as we know is pregnant with her second child, continues to suffer from the effects of Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness), and the decision not to travel was taken by the Duke and Duchess on the advice of the Duchess’s doctors.

The Duchess had been due to undertake her first official solo overseas visit, to mark the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence. The Duke of Cambridge will undertake the visit instead, and will visit the national library to see letters from past British monarchs Henry VIII and George II, take part in Independence Day celebrations and a complete a number of walkabouts.

“The duke is honoured to represent Her Majesty the Queen on the visit, which

commemorates the 50th anniversary of Malta’s independence.

“The visit itinerary remains unchanged,” the palace added in the statement.

Get Well Soon, Kate!

Prince Charles would like a Granddaughter this time round!

Prince Charles has nailed his colours to the mast- and they are pink! Speaking at an engagement in London, he said that he was “happy” and “thrilled”  that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were expecting their second baby.

When chatted to wellwishers, Charles replied to one offer of congratulations on becoming a Grandfather by pointing out “I am already!” He continued: “But it’s wonderful to have another one. I’m looking forward to it — but I hope it will be a girl this time.”

The Prince of Wales at least has a 50% chance of his wish coming true, and as with the Duchess of Cambridge’s first pregnancy bookmakers are taking bets on whether the new Royal Baby will be a boy or a girl, names, weight, date of birth, etc etc… if you’ve got the money and a hunch, the bookies will be willing to offer odds!

New Royal Baby due date?

Most Mums-to-be be like to wait until the 12 week mark before announcing a pregnancy, in which case the Duchess of Cambridge’s second child would be due towards the end of March 2015. However, as with her first pregnancy, Catherine is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum  – severe morning sickness- which we believe has led to the announcement coming from Clarence House before the ‘magic’ 3 month mark. It’s far more likely, then, that Prince George’s brother or sister will be making an appearance later in Spring, possibly around the beginning of May.

As with Kate’s first pregnancy, we expect that an official due date won’t be announced, which will keep the media on their toes!

Royal Baby number 2 on the way for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Congratulations to William and Catherine! Clarence House issued the following statement today:-

Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting their second child.

The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news.

As with her first pregnancy, The Duchess is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum. Her Royal Highness will no longer accompany The Duke of Cambridge on their planned engagement in Oxford today. The Duchess of Cambridge is being treated by doctors at Kensington Palace.

There is an old saying  (dating from the days when succession was a big deal, and a King would want his lineage to keep the crown)  that a King’s wife was duty bound to produce “an Heir and a spare” Some things in the British Monarchy don’t change! 😉
